What is a Pellet Grill?

A NEW WAY TO SMOKE, GRILL, OR BAKE

What Is A Pellet Grill?

In short, a pellet grill is a wood burning convection oven. While the difference in types of grills seems endless — charcoal, gas, electric — each of them has its own strengths and weaknesses. The pellet grill, however, is able to combine the strengths of all without the downside. No grill is able to deliver the perfect smoky flavor — at low or high heats — quite like a wood pellet grill. With pellets made from real, virgin hardwoods, the pellet grill is able to deliver restaurant quality barbecue at the push of a button.

  • Smoke or grill with real wood fire
  • Push button thermostat controls temperature
  • From low and slow smoking to high heat grilling with no flare ups
  • Keeps heat and odors outside while cooking almost anything
  • Cooks bacon with no cleanup
  • Spend more time with your family or watching the game while the controller does the work
  • Uses 100% hardwood pellets so no need to store or handle wood logs

How Does A Pellet Grill Work?

The pellets are poured into the hopper which serves as the fuel source for the grill. An auger, which is driven by a motor, feeds the pellets down the auger shaft into the burn pot. Once in the burn pot, the pellets are ignited by the hot rod. The combustion fan the feeds oxygen into the burn pot to stoke the fire and control the temperature. The controller monitors and controllers the temperature of the grill by coordinating feedback from the internal temperature of the grill with the speed at which the auger and fans turn. Our pellet grills use PID controllers which have been tuned specifically for our grills and are able to keep the grill temperature within 1 degree of the set temperature.

How Long Do Pellets Burn Inside The Grill?

Though times may vary based on a few conditions, you can typically expect to burn ½ – ¾ lb per hour. This means that you can reasonably expect a 20lb bag to last around 25 – 20 hours at 275 degrees. A 20lb bag will last less time when cooked at higher temperatures. Our grills can get over 600 degrees. If you’re looking to quickly swap out the flavor of your pellets or store them, we have a quick clean out pellet chute on all of our pellet grills.

Pellet Grills Vs Other Grills

Pellet grills offer versatility and control like no other grills. With a pellet grill you don’t have to worry about flare ups or temperature swings within the grill. There is also no more need for a match or lighter fluid to get your grill started. On the other hand, the grill does require an outlet to use and is dependent on electricity.
